Graphical abstractTartaric acid modified graphene oxide as a novel adsorbent for high-efficiently removal of Cu(II) and Pb(II) from aqueous solutions. Tartaric acid modified graphene oxide (GO-TA), was successfully prepared and used as a novel adsorbent for aqueous removal of Cu(II) and Pb(II). The maximum adsorption capacities of GO-TA for Cu(II) and Pb(II) reached to 374.53mgg−1 and 125.63mgg−1, respectively. The experimental data can be fitted better by Langmuir adsorption model and pseudo-second-order model. Thermodynamic studies indicated that the adsorption of Cu(II) and Pb(II) onto GO-TA was spontaneous and endothermic.Image, graphical abstract
