 | Enhanced photocatalytic activity of sulfur-doped graphene quantum dots decorated with TiO2 nanocomposites Original Research Article Materials Research Bulletin, Available online 20 September 2017, Pages Yi Luo, Ming Li, Guanghui Hu, Tao Tang, Jianfeng Wen, Xinyu Li, Liang Wang
Graphical abstractS-GQDs decorated with TiO2 were synthesized using a one-step hydrothermal synthesis method. S-GQDs/TiO2 composites showed excellent photocatalytic behavior, which is significantly enhanced compared with those of GQDs/TiO2 and pure TiO2. The possible mechanism for enhanced photocatalytic activity of S-GQDs/TiO2 composites can be attributed to enhanced UV light absorption, which resulted in transfer of excited electron of S-GQDs. Especially, the O2-, which generated on S-GQDs, played an important role in enhancing photocatalytic activity.

| Graphene Oxide-Based Evaporator with One-Dimensional Water Transport Enabling High-Efficiency Solar Desalination Original Research Article Nano Energy, Available online 20 September 2017, Pages Yiju Li, Tingting Gao, Zhi Yang, Chaoji Chen, Yudi Kuang, Jianwei Song, Chao Jia, Emily M. Hitz, Bao Yang, Liangbing Hu
Graphical abstractA jellyfish-like solar steam generator is prepared using the vertical 3D printing, which can fast, automatically and precisely manufacture sophisticated components. The integrated evaporator consists of the aligned GO pillars, CB/GO composite layer and expanded polystyrene (EPS) matrix. The evaporator has a high broadband high absorption within a wide wavelength, low thermal conductivity and fast water transport, which displays an impressive energy conversion efficiency of 87.5% under one-sun illumination (1kWcm−2) and superior solar desalination performance. The ion concentrations (Na+, K+, Mg2+ and Ca2+ ions) of the seawater (Dead Sea and Chesapeake Bay) after purification are far below the ion concentration limit set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) for drinking water.
