Graphical abstractMagnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles were successfully deposited on graphene oxide (GO) sheets through co-precipitation method with the assistance of ultrasound irradiation for the first time and Fe3O4/GO magnetic nanoparticles were used as adsorbent materials. The adsorption properties of the nanocomposite toward Rhodamine B as a cationic dye in aqueous solution were investigated. Adsorption equilibrium and kinetics data were fitted well with the Freundlich isotherm and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The magnetic composite could be effectively and simply separated by using an external magnetic field, and then regenerated and recycled for further use.
