Separating nano graphene oxide from the residual strong-acid filtrate of the modified Hummers method with alkaline solution Original Research Article Applied Surface Science, Available online 24 December 2014, Pages Xuebing Hu, Yun Yu, Yongqing Wang, Jianer Zhou, Lixin Song
Graphical abstractBy adding an alkaline (NaOH or KOH) solution, the unprecipitated nano graphene oxide undergoes fast aggregation from the residual strong-acid filtrate of the modified Hummers method and forms the stable floccules when the pH value of the filtrate is about 1.7. The acid-base interaction with the surface functional groups of the carbon layers plays a role in the aggregation of the unprecipitated nano graphene oxide.
