Graphical abstractSulphur functionalized graphene aerogel was prepared such that sulphur functional group in the form of thiocarboxylic acid ester was chemically grafted onto the graphene oxide sheet. The material was able to exhibit high energy density of 43Whkg−1 at high power density of 38000Wkg−1 which validates the possibility of a harmonious coexistence between high energy density and high power density.

Graphical abstractFree-standing TiO2 nanowire-embedded graphene hybrid membranes have been developed for advanced Li/dissolved polysulfide batteries, which suppress polysulfide shuttling as a result of the synergistic effects of physical and chemical absorption. High capacity values of as high as 1053mA h g−1 is retained after 200 cycles with high rate capability up to 2C rate.
