Graphical abstractHighly nitrogen-doped graphene and the nanocomposite of uniform Co3O4 nanoparticles decorated on the doped graphene were facilely synthesized. The graphene with highly doping content was conducive to a perfect combination of Co3O4 nanoparticles. With the synergy between the highly nitrogen-doped graphene and uniform Co3O4 nanoparticles, the HNG/Co3O4 hybrid exhibited superior electrochemical performance (see figure).
