Graphical AbstractA nitrogen-doped graphene (NG) catalyst is prepared with a transfer doping approach, in which the graphene oxide (GO) is deoxidized and doped by the polyaniline evaporated from another lower boat containing polyaniline. The graphene oxide is prepared through thermal expansion of graphite oxide. For the catalyst prepared at optimal conditions, the nitrogen content could be high up to 6.25 at%, for the oxygen reduction reaction in alkaline medium, the catalyst exhibited high activity, which is comparable to commercial 20 wt% Pt/C catalyst.
